Smart Society Capital is an energy technology growth equity and advisory firm operating between Houston, Geneva and London. We combine experience as investors, founders and executives with expertise at the intersection of AI and energy. We work across the energy value chain - upstream, midstream, power, grid and critical minerals.
We are in a once-in-a-generation power supercycle, where the global conversation has moved from ‘climate and carbon’ to ‘cost and security’. AI and electrification will drive 18% global energy demand by 2050. Electricity consumption will triple. By 2026, data centers will consume the same amount of electricity as Japan. Meeting this demand requires an all-of-the-above energy strategy - and using new AI technologies to do more with less.
We invest in growth-stage energy technology companies across the US, Canada and Europe. We look for globally-minded, ambitious, and hustling energy technology founders and their teams, who defy the odds to build lasting energy technology companies that help meet the demands of the power supercycle. As former tech founders and energy executives, we bring our operating experience, domain expertise and transatlantic networks to actively partner with our portfolio companies and generate strong investor returns.
To complement our investment activities, we advise selected energy companies and partners on their growth strategy, transatlantic expansion and innovation roadmaps. We also host the Smart Society Show - conversations with global leaders on energy and AI.

When we invest
We are growth investors. For us, that means we invest when a company has validated technology, strong customer and revenue traction, and a 5-7 year path to liquidity. We sit between early-stage venture capital and infrastructure and PE investment, helping companies to 'cross the scaling chasm' to lasting impact. This means that we're seeking to mitigate downside risk and loss ratios, while driving outperformance by reinvesting in top performing companies in our portfolio. In most cases, this means that we're investing in Series B and C rounds.
